i have a 48v 2kw razor mx125 and its honestly fun asf. sure the frame may be a little small but that is what makes it fun.
We have had good luck using the factory controller and motor with the dewalt 20v battery. After over 100 hours we have replaced the motor once and still on the original controller.
Did the same with a dewalt 20v 5ah, motor gets hot af (too hot to touch) after about 8min of the kids ride. Stops as you explained in the video, motor is prob bad in ours. Fun ride though! Thanks for the update!
Hey, those reviews are correct. The battery didn't last as long as we'd have liked. We replaced it though, it was easy and wasn't too costly. If you search this channel, I believe we made a video showing the exact battery. Anyway, got it on Amazon, swapped it out and then it ran great again. Good luck!
Thanks for this, got my little dude this bike and it's very underpowered
My buddy just got one, we swapped the motor for a 48v motor. It’s running on dewalt batteries right now but it is pretty quick. Probably 30mph. It’s a little hard to ride (I’m 5’8”). But we are having a ton of fun with it. The biggest downfall is turning is hard and there no suspension. Hurts your butt.
125 …that 350 goes so fast with my 11yr old I got it for him at 8 he flipped multiple times …my 7 yr old was so scared i recommend 125 for 3yr-7yr old
Bro, I have one and I’m 11 and I know for a fact that that is not comfortable
Heads up for anyone looking, this hack does work awesome (did it for my son and he loved it) but after a few months of hard riding he did burn out either the speed controller or motor. So it won’t last forever on the razor 12V system!
I dont know how long it would last long term, but I have put 24V to that motor and took it for a 20 minute ride and it held up. I cannot remember how many amps...20 I think though. 24v lithium with a $7 24V controller and throttle. They make that same motor in several versions, 12v , 24v, but mine is a 12v.
Haha yeah they go good. I’m 100 kegs myself, and jumped on this one - be careful though, there’s no vertical brace on the swing arm, and I notice mine actually bent slightly after my fat arse did a few laps haha
I juat got this bike at goodwill for 6 bucks. All i had to do was take the chain off and soak it in vinegar to eat the rust away ,then wire wheeled it and soaked in oil .bike is running. For 6 bucks .didnt have a charger but i already had one that fit at home .this little thung even pulked me arounf slowly at 200 pounds .I'm doinf the 18 volt upgrade tomorrow cause i have alot of ridgid batteries
I bought the milwaukee attatchment 18v li ion does 23 kmh 5ah last 2 days I bought an 18v lio ion dc charger also off ebay just hsve to disconnect the voltage controller so can charge using dc port
If you use a 3ah it has just the right amount of charge before the motor gets to hot. If I use even a 5ah it gets to hot before it dies.
@Shadetree510yeah same as me. So they’re click click clicking then throttle? Yeah, that’ll kill it pretty quick. The current is very high when a motor first starts, so if they’re clicking it on and off, it’ll get hot. The problem with these bikes is that the factory throttle is simply a switch. There’s no variable speed control. The 48v controller + 800w motor combo I bought for about $150AUD came with variable throttle control. So the kids can hold it half throttle until it gets away, then full once they’re going. You could buy another 100w motor cheaply. But they’re pretty under powered. In this video my son is 4, and he outgrew it a few weeks later. That’s why I bumped the motor size up. You could do some other simple things though if you don’t want to upgrade the motor (which is a bit of mechanical work) … You could add a heat sink to the new 100w motor. You could possibly (and I’ll check this) replace the throttle switch with a variable throttle - I’m just not sure if the factory motor controller has variable throttle input, or not. Jump on whatsapp or messenger and we can chat more about options, with links and images
Okay, mine lasted until the kids outgrew it …. Then I slapped an 800w in it. Super easy 1 afternoon build. No welding. If you swing an email address, I’ll show you some pics of where that same bike is at today. So powerful it flips them off the back haha, I put a speed limiting pot on it, which I can talk you though too. Or find me on Facebook messenger, Cory Jeacocke. I’m an electrician, so happy to help out where I can. Very easy cheap mod to take it to 8x the power mate.
It is very weak, I bought it for my 6 year old son and it does not have much strength, it has disappointed me.
Hey man, that’s really weird. It literally doesn’t matter what batteries you use - the voltage is 18v and that’s all the controller sees. Thats really weird!! Don’t stress, it’s easy to replace that motor controller with another (rated) one off eBay. They’re really cheap. They all typically use the same connectors, in my experience. Super weird that yours did that. I had no trouble with mine until the kids outgrew it. I recently dropped an 800w motor in it, with a new 36v controller, and rigged up two 18v batteries. It goes absolutely ham now. Pretty easy upgrade too. Talk more on messenger about that if you want.
Me too I was incredibly disappointed it claims to go 8 Mi an hour for up to 100 pound person and my barely 40lb 5 year old gets on it and it can't even go in the grass on a slight incline I was very disappointed I wasn't exactly expecting much but I figured a bike with a rubber wheels that could carry 100 lb could at least take him through bumpy grass but I was sadly wrong
Mines still going hard hey … The kids are getting too heavy for it though, the 100w motor is a bit gutless. I just ordered an 800w/36v motor and controller for AU$140, so I’m going drop that in it and see what it can do. 8x the torque will be fun to see.
Ininstalled rigid 18volt and seems last half hr plus , motor gets warm but running strong thinking about upgrading motor
Still using it today… no problems at all, he’s getting a bit big for the bike, but no issues with the drive.
@joshuacraft493 it hammers man. Still lacks torque, uphill it dies in the arse, but keeps moving. On flat hard surface, like our dirt driveway, it’s too fast. And lasts all day. I think I’ll get a 36v motor and run two makita batteries in series next, when he gets a bit bigger. That’ll require a new controller though, and a bit more work. But absolutely, this first mod is best bang for buck. Turns it into a useable product for almost free.
It seems to go all day with a Makita 6AH battery in it. My son gets bored before the battery goes flat. Literally lasted hours
Yeah goes forever with my 4 year on it. Bloody ages. Haven’t timed it, but he gets sick of it before it runs out. Hours.
That's a good point. Our 3 year old can handle the 350 brake handle - but he couldn't at first. The 125 brake is much easier to pull ... but our 125 collects dusts now. I would think it'd be pretty small for a 4 1/2 year old.
Just an update on these a few months later: our 3 year old is off the 125 and is now riding the mx350. We have had only had one maintenance issue on any of them. I was riding the mx650 (I weigh around 180 lbs) and doing some jumps the kids made. Hard landing broke the chain tensioner spring. Ordered one off of Amazon for a few bucks and it's a super easy repair. These bikes are some of the highest return on fun money we've purchased for our kids (with the only close competition being the trampoline). High, high recommendation. Just make sure you get the right size for your kid.
